Astronomy vs. Astrology

For many years I have read my horoscope in the Atrological section of a magazine or newspaper. In recent years I have even looked further into what my Astrological sign says about my personality on the internet. I have never, during all this time, put too much weight on the sayings of these readings. It has been more for entertainment puposes. At the same time, I gained an interest in constellations and names of stars. I even named one of my children after one of the many famous constellations that we see regularly. I watched lunar eclipses, got up in the middle of the night for meoteor showers, and bought a telescope to look at nearby planets and our moon. My interest in horoscopes, signs, and the whole Astrological perspective was like reading a good novel or watching a fun movie. It was interesting and entertaining. My interest in stars, planets and space, however, has always been done more to learn something about our solar system, galaxy, and universe. .
Astronomy's roots were in Astrology but through the centuries, there has been a drastic split between the two. Astrology started back in the cave man days when the people used the sun, moon and stars to guide them. The sky told them when to hunt, when to plant and what season was upon them. "Early man was not an astronomer just for the sake of it. He was an astronomer because he needed the information for his Astrology. In the ancient world if you wanted to be an Astrologer, the first thing you had to learn was astronomy. And astronomer was but and Astrologer's apprentice." .
