Affirmative Action : pro

Within the rigorous months of November through January, a significant number of undergraduate admission departments across the nation are overwhelmed with applications. On each application, the one box that has created much controversy is the applicant's ethnicity. If a minority race were checked, such as African American or Hispanic, Affirmative Action would greatly increase the applicant's chance of acceptance based on his ethnicity. Although some protest against this action, a major way to uphold the democracy that America sanctions, ensure diversity in colleges, and be morally fair is to preserve Affirmative Action. .
America is often referred to as the land of opportunities, but how well does it uphold this widespread view within the education system? Being a democracy, America should provide each individual with an equal chance to succeed and be educated, regardless of race. So, with chances being available, minorities shall more easily be integrated into the education-based society. Currently, however, because of economic conditions and past social oppressions, many minorities cannot academically compete with the majority students. Many lack important resources and do not have the money for high college tuitions or extra help such as tutoring and prep courses. Hence, America, not fair to all students, needs Affirmative Action to reduce these disparities between minorities and majorities, eventually creating a better America. .
Not only is Affirmative Action politically correct, but also socially correct in that universities would benefit as a whole from the diversity that this action would bring. Coming together with different backgrounds and ethnic beliefs, students are able to contribute unique ideas in their classes and to the university. From the past, the Chinese invented paper, the African Americans jazz, and the English the telephone. The different ethnic origin of worldwide inventions demonstrates the effectiveness of a blend of races.
