The Culture I'm Within

We would mainly go to movies targeted to our age group, such as Disney films. As we got older we kept up the tradition of going to movies, but we have changed what movies we watch. We went to movies that targeted us as an audience. We would know these movies from the commercials on the TV shows we watched, that also targeted us as an audience. Within this audience is me, who makes up just a small fraction of my generation's population. I am an individual, but I cannot help being attracted to certain movies, music, art, TV shows, games, and people. I am independent, but what I choose is based on something that has to do with my culture. It is my individual experience of this world. Everyone is raised differently, but if a majority is raised similarly, this majority will stay together as a majority of a generation. This majority is what makes the elements of our generation that are most obvious popular. I do not believe that I am in the middle of this majority. I do not like most popular music, but I do like some of the popular movies. I don't believe that I am part of the audience that the majority of entertainment is directed to. I did like Fight Club though, and the movie has become one of my favorites of all time. This is an indication of understanding the movie, of a relation to it. There is something about my individual personality that made me like the movie. This is a relation of my raising and what I've experienced to an interest in Fight Club.
Fight Club is a movie about culture. Every moment of the movie has something to do with the culture that the main character lives within. The movie starts out with the narrator explaining his insomnia, how he has been unable to sleep for a long time. He is bored with his life, and he hates his job. The only thing about his life that he likes is his condo, which is full of furniture he bought from IKEA. The only joy of his life is ordering new possessions, and enjoying the possessions he already has.
