How is tension and dominance shown in the film Heat

The robbery scene used very effective framing techniques along with sound in order to portray the authority of the thieves. The use of numerous Big close up (BCU) and Close up (CU) in conjunction with the repetitive rhythmic music helps emphasise the importance of the characters and the significance of this scene. The camera movement also plays a key role in creating a tense atmosphere which makes the viewer repeatedly anxious of what will happen next. .
The scene opens with a CU of de Niro calmly walking into the building. This emphasises that he is alert and focused .He then moves into the centre of the frame and towards the camera. As this is the start of the robbery this makes the viewer aware that this man has a major role to play in this scene. These close shots and focus on his face show his dominance and the determination of the character. His white shirt contrasting with his black suit makes him stand out more against the dull background; this is another way in which the scene shows his supremacy and high status. This also gives the audience a sense that it is similar to CCTV due to the colours. This creates an element of irony as he is about to commit a crime where the police are oblivious and de Niro must act natural.
I feel the sound sets the atmosphere right at the very start of the scene. The scene bursts open with a sudden loud note which signals the start of the rhythmic music. This grabs the viewer's attention quickly and makes them aware that this is a major scene in the film. This is contrasted with the previous scene just before the music kicks in of a beautiful and peaceful baby playing. The rhythmic footsteps and the repetitive music is almost like a heartbeat, possibly of de Niro which shows that he is calm, but in fact even the viewer's as the music has started to build up the tension and the anxiety of the audience. .
The vulnerability of the security guards is shown due to the use of camera shots and movement.
