Idgie being Ruth's true friend does not care about the law and takes Ruth out to live with her. All she knows is that Ruth gets depressed and sick because of her husband. Idgie believes that love stands being highest law of all.

Nothing last forever, Idgie knows that someday God is going to take Ruth away from her. Idgie doesn't cry when Buddy died but she can't resist her tears when she has to face the reality that Ruth is dying and will be leaving her alone.
The relationship between Evelyn and Ninny are boring but interesting. Ninny is an eighty six years old woman who performs as Evelyn's counselor. Evelyn had suffered from a middle-aged women problem. She loses her self-confidence as she feels that nobody cares about her. Until one day, she feels that her life has been totally surrounded by loneliness and speaks to herself, "I"m too young to be old and too old to be young. I just don't fit anywhere. I wish I could kill myself, but I don't have the courage"(66). It is not until she met Ninny, where she learnt about the story of Ruth and Idgie, did she regain her self-confidence and courage to stay alive. .
We can see in the novel that Evelyn believes that Ninny's story is the right solution to all her problem. The story gave her courage, self-esteem, rigidity and enthusiasm to stay alive and faces all her problem. She began to change gradually, "But something else had happened here that she could never have dreamed of. She had become a much sought-after, popular person!" (374).
I have my own definition of friends and friendship. It may not be as good as a poet or novelist, but that is not the most important thing, isn't it? When I was a child, I assumed that everybody who treated me nicely were my friends. If anyone gave me a candy, I would consider him or her as my friend. As time goes on, I realized that I had been living in an imperfect world. There is another type of person that I deem and call them my enemy.
