Almost all of his talk shows deal with some form of sex in someway. Most of his shows deal with topics such as lesbian lovers, nasty threesomes, pimps and prostitution, or cross-dressers. I have to admit that I personally watch Jerry Springer more than Ricki Lake. I think it draws people's attention because these are things a normal person does not encounter everyday.
Age is definitely not a factor on the talk show circuit nor is the variety of guests that appear. Ricki Lake has some of the younger, as well as the older population, viewing her shows with guests ranging from children to the elderly. Her guests are usually participating in the discussions by asking questions. Ricki allows the audience to get involved by offering their opinions, asking questions, and relating to the situation. The anticipation of the sign "on the air- to appear; the cheering, clapping, and whistling from the audience; the cue cards prompting the host; this is the Ricki Lake show. Jerry Springer's shows are viewed more commonly by the younger generation who are open-minded and able to accept his views and morals. A pungent odor of numerous fragrances; pissed off guests; an audience ready to boo, judge, and antagonize the participants; a host who's perverted; this is the Jerry Springer show. His studio is filled with angry and upset guests being prompted to display hateful attitudes and with the shuffling of staff and camera crews being moved into position. His television shows should really say "CAUTION: meant for mature audiences only- and all of his guests need to be eighteen or older. .
Stations today are getting better about the consistent use of profanity, nudity, and violence on public cable channels. Both of these talk shows do allow yelling and screaming at each but one takes the issue a step further. Ricki Lake always asks her guests to watch their language because they are on the air and children are watching.
