Linda Ronstadt began her career in the mid- 60's with the folk-rock group the Stone Poneys. Soon after the break up Linda started in the country music field. Then started for great success in the mid- 70's when she became the first female rock superstar. But she didn't stop there, she soon got in to the field of Latin. She won 7 Grammy's and has starred in broad way. She has done so much in her lifetime.
While Ronstadt was a student at Arizona State University, she met guitarist Bob Kimmel. The duo moved to Los Angeles, where guitarist/songwriter Kenny Edward joined the pair. Calling themselves the Stone Poneys, the group was known for folk circuit. After recording one album with the group, Ronstadt left for a solo career.
Ronstadt's first two albums were hand Sown Grown and Silk Purse. She used her country roots for them. But her third album was the big time for her. It featured a session with the Eagles and was a softer; more laid back variation of the country- rock she had been recording. She has work with many famous singer/songwriters like. Jackson Browne, Neil Young, and Eric Anderson. She was a star. Her top song like "It Doesn't Matter Anymore," "You"re No Good," and "When Will I be Loved," reached number one and sold over 2 million copies. Released in the fall of 1977, Simple Dreams was a more rock-oriented supporting putting her in the number one spot for 5 weeks selling over 3 million copies with songs. The album even got her into the Rolling Stones. The record became the singer biggest hit. .
But Linda did not stop there. She started experimenting with new wave, recording Elvis Costell "Alison." But something was missing. .
Sensing it was timed to change direction, Linda started in the Broadway production of Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance. It received great reviews and was a hit. Pirates of Penzance led her to do a collaboration with Nelson Riddle, who conducted her 1983 collection of pop standards What's New.
