This year and recent years before it has become a known fact that the number of Catholic priests being involved in sexual child abuse has risen. We are now finding out that more and more priests have been doing this for long periods of time. No one would have ever suspected people such as priests and other members of the clergy to be child rapists or paedophiles. For this reason, many of them have gotten away with committing acts such as these for so long. Priests and other acquaintences are being discovered and punished for sexually abusing children and it has become a more likely situation and is expected to happen in the future. The main reason that members of the clergy have not been discovered until now was simply because when accused, the bishop began to move the priests to other parishes rather than bringing this issue to the public. .
There are multiple reasons as to why sexual abuse within children occurs. Some of the many reasons are because of bio-genetic, psychological, and socio-cultural explanations. All these are good ways to determine the reason that sexual abuse within the clergy occurs as well as in the rest of the world. Another reason is becuase some people have sexual interest in children instead of adults and it causes them to become sexual offenders. .
The amount of people that are sexual child abusers in the world is equal to the amount of sexual child abusers in the clergy, the reason it seems as though there are so many is becuase of the recent awareness of this odd fetish within the church. There were assumptions that more children, specifically boys, that had been abused by priests went on to sexually abuse others as they got older compared to those who had not been abused by clergy. Tests were shown that children that had been abused by members of the clergy did not go on to abuse others, in fact, they had the same results in either group.
In my opinion, I would say that the reason priests and others in the clergy are sexual offenders of children is becuase they are not allowed to be married.
