Resocialization

Transporatation would probably not be something I owuld be allowed to take part in since I would not know the first thing about driving a dog sled. But, during my time of resocializaiton this would be a skill I could learn. Adapting to the bitter coldness would be a behavior that I owuld be forced to do. Facing the facts that if I were to go out without the proper clothing and precautions I could die, is a form of forced resocialization. In order to survive I would rethink my outdoor activities and learn what would be needed to survive an outing. My values of life would hange from the day to day activities in which I was accustomed to. In all honesty I feel it owuld definitely be a life situation as to if, I could be resocialized, the mere thought makes my feet cold.
Resocializaiton generally occurs because a person is plunged into a situation beyond their control. Most resocialization occurs with total institutions. Meaning a person is imprisoned, be it a long term hospital, prison itself, or convents and monasteries just to name a few. When a person joins or is placed in one of the previously mentioned places they are forced to modify their selves. Not in looks, (well perhaps) but in beliefs and values. A person must accept the new set of values and totally forget the old. A person's self concept must be rethought and re-taught. A person in prison is subject to loss of rights that we in the social world sometimes take for granted. In the Texas Youth Correctional facility resocialization is basic correctional treatment. "Resocialization is the process by which individuals learn new norms, rules and expectations for behavior that allow them to get their needs met without violating the rights of others". (Texas Youth Commission, March 30, 1999).
Research shows that people can be resocialized. To be resocialized you are provided skills taht will enable you to make pro-social choices for your new and existing environment; but to effectively change a person, a person must desire and develop the know how to change.
