Great Expectations

In the book, Great Expectations, Pip changed a great deal from a puzzled boy to a sophisticated gentleman. He encountered many life-altering situations in the whole story.
Pip's parents died when he was very young. He was sent to live with his sister and her husband. Pip learned responsibility by working with his brother-in-law, Joe, as a blacksmith at the forge. Pip was also thought to be very ungrateful. One person that impacted Pip's life a lot was Miss Havisham. Miss Havisham is an old woman who was betrayed by her true love on her wedding day. She adopted a young girl named Estella and tried to live her own life through Estella. Deliberately she raised Estella to avoid emotional attachment and treat those who love her with deliberate cruelty. Estella is very pretty and ever since the day Pip met her, he loved her. These feelings grew stronger and stronger over time, but because of the way Estella was raised, she never showed the same love to Pip. This ultimately changed Pip because being shut down by the one you love is a feeling that would change any person. .
In Pip's late teens, he unexpectedly inherited a large sum of money. He went to live in London. While in London he met and lived with a man named Herbert who also became his good friend. Herbert also gave Pip the alias, Handel. Pip was definitely set apart from other boys his age since he had so much money. Pip matured and learned responsibility because of the money he inherited. He met a lot of people and learned values from them. His attitude became more grown up and he became well educated. Overall Pip became a gentleman.
As Pip grew older he kept maturing and learning. Eventually he found out that his benefactor was his convict, Abel Magwitch, which ultimately changed Pip. Pip thought Miss Havisham was his benefactor. He also thought that Miss Havisham was giving him money because she wanted Pip to marry Estella.
