Comparison for Three Edgar Allen Poe Stories


            There are many similarities between The cast of Amontillado, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Black Cat. In all of the stories the bodies were concealed within the house. There was an amount of insanity involved in all of his murders. All of the murders were done to someone he closely knew. All of the murders were done without remorse. But most importantly he was overconfident in all of his murders.
             The most obvious similarity is that all the bodies were concealed within the house. They also were all hard to find especially in the Tell-Tale Heart and the Black Cat.In The cast of Amontillado Fortunado was plastered up in the catacombs of the Mansion. In The Tell-Tale Heart the old man was hidden underneath the floorboards of his house. In The Black Cat his wife was buried inside the chimney in the basement. In all the stories the bodies were well concealed however because of the murderers being so overconfident in two out of the three stories the murderer was cought. The murderer was very overconfident in all of the stories which led to his downfall in The Tell-Tale Heart and in The Black Cat. In The cast of Amontillado Montressor let Fortunado laugh and scream throughout the process of the murder. In The Tell-Tale Heart the murderer let the policemen eat and talk on top of the floorboards which caused him to confess because of his bad conscience that the body was underneath them. In The Black Cat he knocked on the area were his wife was buried when the policemen were in front of him.
             All of the murders were done to someone the murderer closely knew in all three stories. In The cast of Amontillado Fortunado and Montressor both knew each other because they were both connoisseurs. In The Tell-Tale Heart the murderer was the old man's servant. In The Black Cat the victim was his wife. In all of the murders there was an amount of insanity. In The cast of Amontillado Montressor killed Fortunado because of a number of insults.
