Realism in Drama

.
This approach has a psychological interpretation as it links Othello's motives to his personality defects. In other words, the approach breaks it down as a psychoanalysis of Othello and his actions.
From reading this handout, it may be concluded that the Moor as the "Unheroic tragic hero" gives the readers an insight to the character Othello, and why his actions have inflicted such results. .
In "Othello Re-read" by Derick R.C.Marsh, Marsh insinuates the fact that with each time the text is read, each individual applies their own situation, culture, previous knowledge, prejudices, and ideas to the text. He also suggests that the current nation we live in would effect our reading, whether it be the political, economic or social conditions in our lives. "The same is true of the relationship between the consciousness of the author and the society in which he or she lived or lives.".
This reading of Othello attempts to create a title for Othello which is very unlike that of the unheroic tragic hero portrayed in the first handout. Marsh describes how the true meaning of the play is not fully understood due to the current situations of the reader, and that the only responder to comprehend would be that of the audience in Shakespeare's day and time. .
To make the play a less tragic play, Marsh in some way creates the idea that tragedy is "so moving an experience because it dramatizes for us the two most terrifying things about the conditions of our existence, that we are not ultimately in control of the way we live, or of when and how we die.".
Fred Langman's analysis of Othello contains both feminist readings and social readings. In this analysis, Langman looks at the conditions of the society represented in the play and how the characters are affected by this society, how the storyline is affected by this society, and how the character's would have been perceived in the time and day of Shakespeare himself.
