France wanted vast reparations for war losses and wanted provinces of Germany to be made their own plus they were not at all interested in the league of nation that America wanted to set up. Britain also wanted reparations for war losses from war losses, they wanted to cut down Germany's forces, and they also wanted provinces from Germany to be their own but hey were fairly interested in the League of Nations. On the contrary of France was America who was the least afraid of Germany as they were a very rich nation with a very large army plus it had the Atlantic Ocean to protect them, Therefore they wanted no reparations but were very keen of disarmament, France and Britain owed huge amounts of money to America. America wanted to take land from Germany but not for them and they were very, very keen on creating a league of nations. Therefore, the three main nations in the lead up to the treaty were far from united on how Germany should be treated. The eventual treaty seemed to satisfy everyone on the sides of the Allies.
The treaty demanded that the following lands were taken from Germany; Alsace-Lorraine (given to France),Eupen and Malmedy (given to Belgium),Northern Schleswig (given to Denmark),Hultschin (given to Czechoslovakia),West Prussia, Posen and Upper Silesia (given to Poland),The Saar, Danzig and Memel were put under the control of the League of Nations and the people of these regions would be allowed to vote to stay in Germany or not in a future votes. The League of Nations also took control of Germany's overseas colonies.
Germany had to return to Russia land taken in the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Some of this land was made into new states: Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. An enlarged Poland also received some of this land. Military restrictions were; Germanys army was reduced to 100,000 men and they were not allowed tanks, Germany was not allowed an air force, she was allowed only 6 capital naval ships and absolutely no submarines.
