Achilles Heel Allusion

All individuals have their own advantages and disadvantages. Most limitations are discovered to be mental ailments rather than physical. Mental boundaries are the hardest of all to overcome. Only the strong survive in the battle inside them. This also applies to the origins of this famous phrase, "Achilles Heel." Achilles was an arrogant Greek warrior who thought he was invincible. Little did he know his pride would lead to his demise.
Achilles was the bravest and strongest warrior in the Trojan War (Achilles Heel). This well-known individual appeared to have no weaknesses. His protective mother, Thetis, attempted to make him immortal by dipping him into the magical waters of the river Styx. She held him by his heel, forgetting to dip him in a second time to immerse it as well. The heel stayed dry and was therefore unprotected ("Achilles" Encyclopedia). In the Battle of Troy he was mortally wounded, after being shot with an arrow in his heel by Paris ("Achilles" Microsoft). At the time his secret physical weakness was his heel. His true disability was his excessive pride. This well-known phrase is used nowadays to describe someone's fault. The old adage "Achilles heel" is used to portray any weak point. It is also referred to as the tendon at the back of the leg connecting the heel and calf. The Dutch anatomist Verheyden first used the phrase Achilles Heel in the year 1693. He used this expression to describe his amputated leg. When he dissected it he referred to it as his own Achilles heel (Achilles Heel). The phrase was so well used that it is now regarded as an every day saying, although it took a while to catch on.
In today's society, certain references to ancient Greek or Roman culture can be found at the turn of every corner. The influence of their history is so understated in this day and age. It can be found far and wide by anyone who searches for it. The democratic government several countries live under was recognized as established originally by their culture.
