first years of my life hearing people refer to me as blanca, white. I figured out that she .
was truly white before she came to America, and she even protected herself from .
sunburn. Now on the other hand, ever since she came to America, shes no .
longer white anymore because as we know the skin color of people in America and the .
people in Puerto Rico are totally different and even if she was whiter in Puerto Rico, it .
does not have to be the same in America. As she stated, In America, I am a person of .
color, obviously a Latina. She though since she had a whiter skin in Puerto Rico, she .
assumed that no matter where she goes, she will always be whiter skin than anybody .
else. However, it turned out that in America, there were thousand of people who had .
much whiter skin than her. At early of her age, she never thought that shed become .
dark in the future.
Cofer identify constant as she stated, I had brains for sure and some talent in .
writing. These facts were a constant in my life. As the variables in my life, she .
stated, My skin color, my size, and my appearance were variables.
From her last paragraph; I firmly believed that she does now completely overcome .
with anguish of her heart that she felt. Be able to do whatever she desires to with every .
