Two months prior, there was a fire at the Pussywillow Mental Institute. Many files were destroyed including that of the said Holden Caulfield. The following is a reconstruction of the mental/medical history of the said Holden Caulfield. One year has passed since the admission of said patient. The doctors here at Pussywillow have had plenty of time to diagnose his character and problems. The following is a report of his problems and a prognosis about what might happen to Caulfield in the future.
Mr. Caulfield is ironically judgmental. He has problems with everyone. The people are not the problem; Holden is. He seems to think everyone, except himself, is a phony. Because someone acts a little phony around certain people at certain times doesn't make him a phony. In reality, Holden is the phony. He is a phony to himself and others. He doesn't like who he is, so he tells lies about himself to appear to be someone else and sinks him self into self-delusion. He hires a prostitute in the self-delusion that he would actually do anything with her. On the train, where he meets a schoolmate's mother, he lies for no other reason than to escape the reality that is Holden Caulfield. .
He fears what other people will think of him, though he thinks pretty much the same of them. One instance, he goes into New York, which is not a safe place for a stupid little phony like Holden. When he went into New York, he crossed the point of no return because we don't believe he knew where he was or how to get home. He keeps thinking about calling people, but he almost never does because he thinks people will think badly of him. He buys a gift for his sister, but she never knows because he doesn't want her to know he broke it. Mr. Caulfield thinks he isn't good enough for others so he hides in his shadows.
In the future, Holden will probably stay within his mental means, provided the right care and if he stays on his pills.
