Stephen Hawking

Many great scientists and philosophers have tried to explain the creation of the universe or the point at which time began, but no theories have been as widely accepted as Stephen Hawking's big bang theory. Stephen Hawking is the leading cosmological scientist of the past forty years and is continually making new breakthroughs on his most concentrated study, the beginning of the universe (Academic 1). The question of where, when, and why the universe exists is a commonly pondered question among scientists and average humans alike. The thought of creation comes up in many religions, while at the same time some philosophers believe in evolution and hope to cancel out the thought of a creator. Of all the theories that have been brought forth, none have been proven to be correct. Some modern scientists believe this is because of how long the universe has existed and the possibility that small changes could have taken place. Most creation story followers say that the reason nobody can find a unifying theory to the beginning of time is because the creator intended that man never figure it out. Hawking does not intend to rule out the existence of a supreme being nor does he feel this is the only explanation. He uses his knowledge of physics and cosmology to try to not only pinpoint a time and way that the universe began, but explain many of the universal mysteries that continue to baffle scientists today. .
In my research I intend to explore the ideas of Hawking as well as ideas that have been proposed by other people. It is my feeling that the only way to get a grasp of the idea of the beginning of time is to take a few people's thoughts and pick them apart. I wanted to learn as much as I could about the developments of where and how the universe began. It is mind-boggling to think that at one point none of the universe existed as it does today. I broke the ice on science and reasoning as well as religion to try to get an idea of what things play a role in the theories on a beginning.
