For someone to be sexually turned on by rape or other violent sexual acts should be considered a disease. I find those types of acts to be analogous to pedophilia. The depiction of children in sexually depicting acts is illegal in our country and looked at as extremely wrong with in our society. This topic affects our entire society and should be seriously looked at again by our government.
The argument of pornography has been one that has been debated long before the government made it legal in 1970. At the time the laws against pornography were repealed, the government did not for see the problems that would be created by it. Pornography today goes far beyond the boundaries of what is considered normal sexual acts within our society. I feel that the distinction should lay within regular pornography and pornography depicting demeaning or violent sexual acts, so-called Erotica. Those who watch violent or demeaning pornography are more likely to commit violent sexual acts against individuals in our society. Pornography that contains violent or demeaning sexual acts should be made illegal in our society due to the detrimental effects it has. .
Many would argue that by limiting the type or style of pornography is a violation of there 1st Amendment rights. But to argue that the 1st amendment protects pornography it must not contain the following;.
1. Appeal to a prurient (i.e., unhealthy or shameful) interest in sexual activity. .
2. Depict real or simulated sexual conduct in a manner that, according to an average community member, offends contemporary community standards. .
3. According to a reasonable person, lack serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.
By those requirements all pornography that depicts violence or demeaning acts (erotica) should be illegal. According to the argument by Reid D. Albee "Ethical Considerations of Pornography", "Law enforcement officers and prosecutors attempting to pursue an obscenity investigation or prosecution face constitutionally mandated procedural obstacles not present in other criminal matters.
