Character of Miranda in the Tempest

            
             Miranda's character in relation with Prospero:.
             Prospero was the duke of milan but his younger brother Antonio usurped the throne from him with the help of the king of naples, Alonso, Prospero's sworn enemy. As a result of this Prospero and Miranda, not even 3 years old then, had to flee to the island with the help of Gonzalo who gave Prospero his magical books, clothes, food etc. They had been living there now for over 12 years. Miranda had a deep love for prospero, He was her guiding figure. She had the utmost respect for him and would never contradict him. Prospero tutored her for the 12 years and gave her more education than any other princess could get. Though he tutored her for so long, Miranda was still ver innocent and had no idea of her past. The sight of the ship caught in the Tempest touches her heart.
             and she begs prospero to stop it. This brings out the sympathetic and loving nature of her heart to all creatures who are in danger or in trouble. Miranda was a perfect daughter to Prospero.
             Miranda's character in relation to Caliban:.
             Caliban was Sycorax's son and had the form of a half human half dog. Miranda had a deep hatred towards Caliban. This is very surprising as it shows a part of her character that expresses hatred. You can see this in Miranda's Speech to Caliban where she tells him how evil he is and love cannot touch him. Her hatred was justified though as he once tried to rape her. She tried to be kind to him but it backfired. As a result of the speech Miranda gives Caliban many editors of the 18th and 19th centuries reassigned the words to Prospero.
             Miranda's character in relation to the victims of the shipwreck:.
             Miranda is sympathetic and heartbroken when she sees the ship caught in the tempest. She begs her father Prospero to pacify the waters with his magical powers. She feels that there were noblemen on board and feels sorrowful when she thinks of all the pain and suffering they must be going through during the tempest.
