So I went, expecting to see crystals and little pyramids abounding on the shelves! But when I walked in it looked like a normal store. The nutritionist whose name was on the card happened to be there.              There can be vast differences between many terms which are mistakenly crossed over with each other - "holistic" and "homeopathic", for example. "Homeopathy" means to treat diseases with small doses of drugs or viral vaccines which might otherwise cause symptoms of illness in a healthy person. "Holistic" can simply mean health treatment emphasizing vitamins, nutrients and herbs which prevent and heal ailments, but can also mean that the practitioner will "treat the whole person, not just the disease". .
Holistic medicine sometimes involves "getting in touch with your psyche", encouraging hypnotism and yoga meditation. Products may be labeled new age solution, global health, or good for your aura. You may have no qualms about this, or you may have religious convictions which say not to participate in such things. In any case, the sign in the store saying "herbal remedies" is probably a safe bet.
On the other hand, be on the alert for new breakout phrases by the traditional medical community, too - they may just be "dump" terms for ailments that doctors don't really have an explanation for. .
Chemically based prescription medications will treat the symptoms, not the causes. Two classic examples today are "irritable bowel" and "chronic fatigue" syndromes, popular new names in our stress-bound world.
