Diversity Issues in Hotel Rwanda


            In 1994 Rwanda a small eastern country in Africa was in the midst of modern day genocide between two tribes Tutsi and Hutu. The Tutsi tribe tired of being controlled by the Hutu rebelled, which caused the Hutus to form an army with intentions to kill off Married to a Tutsi Pauls first priority was to save his family, but as the war began to worsen he couldn't just sit and watch innocent people die without helping. While waiting for help from the United Kingdom, the hotel manager buys time in exchange for money and liquor with one of the Hutu commanders. However, Paul ended up saving the lives of roughly 1,200 Tutsi tribe members who turned to him for help, by conforming a four star hotel in Rwanda into a refugee shelter when being left in control.
             What are the specific issues with Diversity that are addressed in this movie?.
             Although, Tutsi and Hutu are both African tribes in the same culture who in general face the same adversities in life and political hate they were slaves of power. Pitted against each other by white Belgian settlers who measured their background and skin color to elevate Tutsis as a better tribe. Being labeled different by whites and given power by the departed Belgian colonists Hutu began taking over and killing off Tutsi while the world carried on with no interference from the government. During the events taken place, they were United States guest who were at the time of the war staying at the four star hotel. When aware of the crime and horrific attacks taking place in Rwanda the United States government then orders the evacuation of ONLY American Citizens while turning their backs on the genocide happening leaving the Tutsi to fend for themselves until there rescue months later.
             How are these issues resolved? .
             Paul Rusesabagina, is a man with courage he finds that his conscious won't let him watch as people are being brutally murdered without action. The hotel manager determined to fight uses his resources and political connections to keep the Tutsi in the refugee hotel safe.
