Appreance Discrimination

Our thin-obsessed society steadfastly trusts that overweight people are at responsibility for their size and it is politically correct to defame and make fun of them (NAAFA).
             .
At the beginning of the twenty-first century, not only whole world groups start to be preoccupied with physical appearance, but also American society began to concern about their appearance. Slim, tanned, brawny, slender movie stars and "supermodels" beautified and lead magazine covers, websites and television screens. In addition, the attractive figure became talkative and perceptive, as these images of culture pontificated on religion, science, politics, philosophy, and numerous other weighty subjects. (WILLIAM R. CORBETT, 1) Particularly, younger generation such as high school and college kids do working out or starve themselves in order to imitate these beautiful people. They even take the fat-burning supplements to lose their weight and applying all sorts of creams and gels to their bodies in order to shape their bodies more attractively. Also, old generations who had enough money, need more desperate helps, and even want to be seen younger, they paid surgeons to raise, tuck, tighten, increase, decrease, and otherwise alter whatever desired change, but they also do the same things just like what the younger kids do for their beauty. These things happen because of existence of discrimination toward an appearance in our society. People make instant judgments based on physical appearance indications and those judgments encourage how they respond to others (Zebrowitz, 1996). Also physical attraction had the most influential power on people's judgments of social abilities, but had very small or non-substantial impact on judgments of concern for others and integrity. Critical economic considerations contain the question of income difference based on looks, as well as high or low productivity from workers considered attractive or unpleasant by their colleagues.
