Germany - A Leap Across the Pond

There are multiple differences between the sociological characteristics of Germany and this land that we call "free"". Although time has changed the face of Germany over the last century, they have managed to keep an abundance of their culture intact. As we take a look at the major differences and the few similarities of our two countries, we need to keep in mind that the German culture has remained strong and true to their beliefs along the way. Social and cultural differences have made the United States what it is today - the melting pot of the world. Without these differences our country might be a lot more like the mother land of 300 years ago. Germany on the other hand has kept stride with the advancements while keeping true to their heritage.
For centuries, the world has watched as religion changed and molded modern day civilizations. For example, Martin Luther founded the Lutheran religion and this religion still inhabits more than a third of the German population (at least a third of the population that still claims to have a religious belief). In the United States, it's unnatural to claim that there is no god, no god of any kind. Atheist beliefs in America are frowned upon, for the mere fact that this means the world was created by science. This also means that the day you and your partner decide to get married it will not be in the church, again unnatural here. Germans who decide to have their marriage ceremony in the church are not considered legally bonded. In the eyes of the state, a marriage will not be legal until it has been done at a city hall. Also same-sex marriages in Germany are never legal, although they do recognize civil partnerships.
German society finds that a couple living together before marriage is completely acceptable. This is not much different in the U.S except for one small side note, if you are going to have children in America you need to be married.
