Making Sense of the Vietnam War

The media's inaccurate portrayal of Tet terminated the public's trust in the US government. If the media had presented the facts of the Tet Offensive to the American people accurately and gained support for the war the United States may have been successful in Vietnam. .
             The Tet Offensive caused a chain of events that led to the withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam and ultimately led to a defeat for the United States armed forces. The United States is more successful during warfare with the support for the American people. The support for both World War I and II was much greater and showed to be more successful. This issue is significant because it is relevant to what is going on today in the Middle East. The lack of support from the home front has an effect on the progress of the war. Military victory and success are intangible without the support from the home front. The United States failure in the Vietnam War was a result of the media's fabricated recount of the war that sparked public outrage among the American people. .
             One of the most significant aspects of the Vietnam War as a whole was the culture in America during the time period. The 1960's and 70's saw an unprecedented culture change in America. Once the United States became involved with the conflicts on Vietnam, American patriotism and nationalism began to diminish. Americans now commonly believe that the war in Vietnam fueled the anti-government and anti-war movements that shocked American society and ultimately led to the United State's failure in Vietnam. Many of these movements were not a result of the fabricated coverage the media delivered. A great deal of the lack of support was due to the misconceived knowledge of the war. To this day, the Vietnam War is considered one of the most controversial events in American History.
