Temper Tantrums & Operant Conditioning

             Method.
The way that I developed the treatment/method to change Madison's behavior was a little bit of a challenge. I have no idea how long these behaviors have been going on so I knew this was not going to be something easy to tackle. After I assessed her behaviors and watched everything that was the causes of these awful temper tantrums I then understood why the tantrums were occurring and developed a plan that I was going to use to stop them all together.
The first part of my plan was a detailed schedule of what Madison's day was going to be like from the time she woke up to the time she went to bed. With that detailed schedules I made up a behavior chart, the chart had a list of good and desired behavior on one side and a list of bad unwanted behavior on the opposite at the bottom of the chart there is a spot for exceptionally good behavior. The behavior chart also indicated what the consequence was going to be of a good or bad behavior. Madison is the one who gets to put stars or sad face stickers on the chart. With that as a constant reminder it caused her to think about her actions and be more involved with her day. That way she has an understanding of the positive or negative punishment or reward. I then toddler-proofed the house that was I didn't have to continue to take things from her or telling her "No"." .
Since Madison always want to be in control and independent I structured the outings in a way that she was able to be involved and have some sort of control. When time to go shopping we would sit down at the table and I would give a positive reinforcement by letting her help with planning the dinners and snacks for the week. If she didn't want to help then she would receive a negative punishment by not being able to decide what she wants to eat that week. With all the decisions she would make it would led up to a star or sad face on the behavior chart. Not helping with the list would result in a sad face sticker, and helping would give her a star.
