Cary Grant - Handsome and Hilarious

A relationship that is comprised of not only Susan, but also her aunt the benefactor, a fox terrier named George, a pet leopard named Baby, and other eccentric characters. It is undeniable that Susan's determination to entrap David is the initial force that sets the plot in motion. This impromptu relationship is the result of Susan's determination to "entrap" David and to prevent him from making it to his wedding the next day, in which she succeeds. Bringing Up Baby represents some of Cary Grant's best work, portraying the two different sides of his acting, his rapid-fire dialogue combined with the physical comedy, and how he was the ideal romantic comedian.
The sweet, geeky and naive persona of David that Grant plays in "Bringing Up Baby" is only one of the two typical roles that he choose to portray in his films. Although he plays the geek facade throughout most of this film, there are many times where his smooth talking, fast witted side peeks through. For example, in one particular scene he manages to say, "It isn't that I don't like you, Susan, because, after all, in moments of quiet, I'm strangely drawn to you , but-well, there haven't been any quiet moments!" (Austerlitz, 120), and at this point in the movie, we hadn't seen much of David's fierier side, so it was a pleasant surprise. Throughout the film, it seemed that whenever he would argue with Susan, he was able to throw back a few good responses before she would conquer him in an overwhelming verbal assault. Although towards the end of the film he was remarkably better at fighting back. These were the points where Grant was able to play with and mold his two personas in order to create the perfect character for each individual film.
Those short glimpses of Grant's suave and smooth talking side, are also when we get to see his signature, fast paced, rapid-fire dialogue come into play (Grant). It was in these few moments, that David would come up with a witty, clever remark that would surprise everyone before somebody, usually Susan, would dish it right back at him.
