Wearing The Scarlet Letter

Everyone has committed a sin either knowingly or by accident. Some sins are committed out of love, like that of Hester and Dimmesdale in "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. While others commit the sin of hate just like Chillingworth. Hester was forced to bear the letter "A" (adultery) as punishment for committing her sin and for salvation. On the other hand, I must bear "H" (hate) in order to transform myself into a better person and to gain more knowledge of things that I wouldn't be able to see for myself without my Scarlet Letter.
Hate is such a strong word, but it is also a strong sin. Hate means to have evil thoughts or thoughts of inflicting pain on another person by your own will. I have had those thoughts before and they are the cause for which I must bear the "H" for all to see. The "H" represents the side of me no one has seen or should see. As I walk through the hall of Hialeah Miami Lakes I can see scattered stares and hear secrets whispered. Little did they know I could hear what they were saying by just looking into their eyes. I felt the pain of Hester and the guilt of Dimmesdale when I first entered the school. I have also learned from the "H" that people place judgment on what they see and hear. They don't take the time to realize that all have committed sin. I just chose to change myself unlike them. The truthful sinner would always be looked up upon while the secretive saint plays in the shadows. However, that "H" does give me the same burning sensation when I"m .
             .
in the center of those whispers and stares. The exposure of a sin can really wear you down in life. Who would have known that a single letter would ruin one's life?.
Today's society doesn't really follow the Supremacy of Divine Will. The Supremacy of Divine Will is the belief that God wills his world. The world must be governed by his morality. The Puritans believed that the public abasement of the sinner or criminal would not only punish them but also grant them salvation.
