The beginning of the gang "Gangster Disciples," begins with none other than the chairman of the gang, Larry Hoover, who gained high recognition through the ranks of Chicago's gang scene in the early 1960's. Hoover took over the gangs control in the year 1974 by making multiple alliances with local street gangs. Hoover later ended up running his gang as much as he could from behind bars until he was later moved to a more tight knit security wing in the early 1990s. Larry Hoover was born in the southern town of Jackson, Mississippi on November, 30, 1950. Just 5 years after being born Hoover and his family moved to the south side of Chicago in 1955. When he was just 16 years of age, Hoover had joined a local gang of about 50 or more members that called themselves the Supreme Gangsters. Larry and his newly found gang would hang around their neighborhood, which were the slums, at the corner of Green St. and 68th on the South Side of Chicago. In 1965 Hoover, when he was just a sophomore, was kicked out of high school on the 1st day, after a rival gang member shot him in the leg.
In the 1960's, a gangster by the name of, David Barksdale, created a gang by the name of the Disciple Nation. David Barksdale, Jerome King Shorty Freeman another gang leader in the south side Chicago area and a man by the name of Don Charles Jones created the gang Disciple Nation that consisted of Barksdale's, Devil's Disciples, the Falcon Disciples and multiple other Chicago gangs. In the 60's, David Barksdale also had control of three other smaller gang's. One of these gangs in know as being one of the most silent but deadliest of the Disciple Nation Gangs in the town of Tacoma Washington, by the name of the Southside Villain Folks. It is said that Georgia is one of the largest disciple houses in the entire U.S. with one of Georgia's prisons that hold one of the most esteemed folk member who has ever lived by the name of Earl Porter, also known as King Porter.
