The Suicide Tourist - A Film on Assisted Suicide

Over the past few years, this organization has assisted in about 1000 suicides in Zurich clinics.
Although this film reveals negative aspects of society, it is connected to three norms, which are Folkways, Mores, and Values. Norms are what helps govern society, and this films gives examples of how they play a role in someones life. The first norm to be presented is Folkways, which is the general standards of implied behavior that is part of everyday life. It played a major role because as the disease began to take over Ewertt's body, he wasn't able to do things or behave the way that he normally would. Lou Gehrig''s had taken away his folkways, causing his perception on society to change.
Another norm that presents itself is Mores, which are strict codes that control moral/ethical behavior. No matter how hard he tried to think other-wise, he was dying and he had no way of seeing the brighter picture. His morals were beginning to deteriorate and the way he began to think wasn't coinciding with society. On the other hand, his ethics were enhanced because since he saw things in a different way, he began to think more and became wiser. It also helped him come up with the idea to end his life with the help of Dignitas.
The last norm associated with the fim is Values, which can be in association with beliefs, and is standards that define ideal principles about what is right or wrong. This film is primarily based on values, because the main issue being presented is whether assisted suicide should be right or wrong. In Ewertt's mind, he considers taking his life as something thats right to do because he's tired of the disease, but some people would disagree with his beliefs. The reason such a practice is illegal in America is because so many people would argue that this is wrong. In the film, Ewertt brought up Gods creation, and made a connection to him taking his own life and doctors who abort unborn baby's.
