Maybe that'll just change some s--- around." That statement reveals Eric's lack of approval and sexual gratification. Eric felt that if he had sex, he might have reconsidered the attack. Sex would have changed how Eric felt about himself. He may have felt more like a man. If Cullen had thoroughly read through Eric's journal, this information would have negated his whole conclusion. The attack was avoidable. .
Dave Cullen also doesn't do a fair job of addressing the problems of gun culture, the two boy's everlasting feelings of loneliness, and the misreading by the psychologists. Guns are easily accessible in the town of Littleton. Having one in the home is common practice and children possessing guns result in a mere slap on the wrist. Dylan and Eric resulted to gun violence after they got sick of feeling like lonely outsiders. They didn't have anyone that understood them. They didn't feel that anyone was genuinely empathetic to their troubles.
Documentarian Michael Moore, produced a film titled "Bowling for Columbine"." Moore didn't completely explain the events that took place at Columbine High School as Cullen did, but he did use the shooting as a catalyst to attack other similar issues of the world. He recognized that after the shooting, the American public blamed everything from gun laws to bad parenting to rock music for causing the tragic event. To address that issue, Moore has a conversation with Marilyn Manson regarding his feelings on the shooting. Moore asks him "If you were to talk directly to the kids at Columbine or the people in the community, what would you say to them if they were here right now? " Marilyn Manson replies with, "I wouldn't say a single word to them. I would listen to what they have to say, and that's what no one did." No one acted as a mentor towards the two. No one attempted to peel back their many emotional layers, so Dylan and Eric unleashed rage upon their school.
