Establishg My Career in the Air Force

            For as long as I can remember, I've been interested in the armed forces. This is due to the fact that my dad is a retired Air Force veteran and my mom was in the Coast Guard. I take a lot of pride in telling people that my parents served this amazing country, but it was not until my freshman year in high school that I decided it was my destiny to serve my country as well. I chose the Air Force because the stories my dad has been telling me since I was young had sparked my interest in the Air Force, and I became determined to do what it took to become an Air Force officer - and in doing so, become a pilot. .
             There are a couple of avenues one can take to become a pilot. Both are extremely challenging as officers are elite members of the military and must be prepared to take on the responsibilities of being a leader of the military. The avenue that I desire to follow is that of the Air Force Academy. The Air Force Academy is a four year university just like any other aside from the grueling military lifestyle that is included to prepare you for a career in the Air Force. At the academy, one may choose to pursue any of the majors that they offer. I personally would like to major in aerospace engineering and more specifically aeronautical engineering. Aside from your daily class routine, you are also required to participate in either intramural athletics or intercollegiate athletics. This suits me excellently as I desire to play intercollegiate soccer. .
             The other avenue to become an Air Force officer is to participate in Air Force ROTC at a college/university of your choosing. This is my secondary avenue. If I am not accepted to the Air Force Academy I would like to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Colorado Boulder, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, or the University of Washington Seattle. AFROTC is considered an elective course and serves as a minor while you pursue a major of your choosing.
