Privacy, Intrusion and Social Media Products

This is not a flaw in the SM product, but rather a lack of diligence in Randi either educating herself about the SM settings or not asking for help to better understand them. Imagine a marketing director at FB itself, not just asking a tech person for help. In regard to all the naysayers whining about their privacy, I say take it to the courts as did Maryland and now it illegal for employers there to use SM information of employees or potential employees for ANY reason, (NCLS.org.). Moreover, The United States Supreme Court requires governmental agencies to obtain probable cause based warrants in order to obtain most stored online communication. Teens benefit by SM participation many times over any negative impact SM may cause. So what if parents give their kids a dummy phone to turn into camp counselors so they can keep a phone that is "not allowed." At camp, the phone is like a teddy bear except a real entity called mom and dad are inside of it to help in any emergency situation. As for those that say the kids get on FB with the second phone, this is a parenting issue rather than a SM issue. If SM interferes with study and academic performance then that has become a "parenting," issue as well and not to be blamed on FB. As for esteemed author Malcolm Gladwell berating activists of the digital information age I say.tell it to Damon Brown a young boy in Seattle, Washington that received a kidney transplant after telling about his need on a SM site. Or more recently in the news of a few days ago when Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant chain gave $30,000 to three year old Victoria Wilcher, after her parents reported a KFC employee asked them to leave due to the child's disfigured face after a pit-bull dog attack. Rumors of this being a hoax have come to light, yet KFC said even if the parents concocted the story that the corporation wishes the girl to keep the money for surgeries.
