Thirty Six Hours in Qatar

Having such a great job has given me the opportunity to travel around the world to some of the most unique and exciting cultures. On this business trip, I am traveling to the Middle Eastern city of Doha, the capital of Qatar accompanied by my wonderful girlfriend Karen. We will be flying into Doha's airport, New Doha International Airport (NDIA) on Wednesday July 23rd at 8am, and return home the following day at 8pm. Since this trip is in the dead of the summer we are expecting extreme heat, and the forecast is showing a high of 109 degrees and a low of 91 those two days we will be there. Many travel websites have indicated that primarily light clothes are vital to surviving this brutal heat, and also recommended sun cream and sunglasses (Virtualtourist.com). Since I am bringing my other half along with me, I had to also research what sort of clothing is acceptable for women to wear. Women's clothing is said to avoid offending the Muslim sensibilities: knees, shoulders, and upper arms should be covered for the most part and also no figure hugging clothing. .
Before heading into this new territory I am very uncertain of, I decided to do as much research on the history of the city and about the people as I possibly could. The country of Qatar is a peninsula in the East of Arabia, directly bordering Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf. Doha has turned into a major administrative commercial and population center, built around many petroleum deposits. Seeing as Doha is a massive storage area and loading terminal for oil, this city is one of the richest places in the world. Doha was founded under the name Al- Bidda, and depended entirely on fishing and pearling before this discovery of oil. Ever since this petroleum economy boost, Doha has been seeing huge amounts of population growth (up to 2,068,050), which has ultimately caused a boom in the real estate sector with real estate prices skyrocketing (spgmiddleeast.
