Taking Control of Asthma


This can be demonstrated in the scenario background of Joseph who has been suffering asthma since he was 3 years old. Joseph wakes up at night coughing and often feels tired in the morning. However, he blames to his dad's mistakes because his dad snores which interrupted him. He also coughs and gets tired while playing sport. In fact, these are the most common symptoms of asthma. The patient is coughing, struggling to breath and becoming tired more quickly at night, in the early morning and during exercise. Wheezing, which is whistling noise when breathing, and tight feelings in chest are another typical characters of asthma that result in Joseph's fatigue. The change in temperature or weather is also a factor responsible for triggering attacks that causes asthma. This is revealed when Joseph finds hard to breathe in the cold winter air. Eating unhealthy food and feeling depressed are alternatively contributed to Joseph's decreasing health status. .
             Part II.
             According to Joseph's health state, the nurses should take their responsibilities to improve the client's health level by providing a teaching-learning plan that consist four principles assessment of health teaching and learning. The first principle is the individual's expectations of learning and learning needs. The nurses identify the client's requirements about their learning needs correspondingly to their illness. By applying a teaching plan, the nurses analyse the client's knowledge about their illness and how they demonstrate self-care. Through that process, the nurses can determine the critical information to match the client's demands and eliminate the irrelevant to the client's experiences of learning (Crisp et al.2013). In keeping with Joseph, the nurses have the responsibility to educate Joseph about his illness due to his misunderstood of asthma and lack of taking medications regularly. Furthermore, nurses can also give him a brochure to take control on asthma or arrange him to particular asthma campaign and community for teenagers.
