Edward Snowden - A Question of Ethics

If one believes they cannot live up to the contract, just do not sign it, thus, rejecting that contract. From a business standpoint stealing is always a concern because "[a]s with any large-scale human activity, if enough people are involved eventually someone will do something corrupt or malicious" [Sin13]. This is exactly why business and the government must have such clauses in their contracts when hiring people. Snowden took what he had access to, only because of the work he did, and essentially misused it. What if this information could have stopped another 9/11? Understanding people want their privacy, but what is privacy if you lose your life? .
"The standards of what we want to keep private and what we want to make public are constantly evolving" [Sin13]. Living in a democracy we, as American's, should have a say in what private information the government can access, but just as privacy evolves the laws need to do the same. From working in the healthcare field there are the HIPPA laws that protect our health care information. We must give consent for anyone to release any of our health information to anyone else. Even if it is to a doctor that referred that individual to them in the first place. How can the government just take our information without our knowledge or consent? Why is this ok in one area but not all areas? We may not like the idea that the government can pick and choose which information they can take without our permission, but is this the price we pay since 9/11? Do we now have to choose between privacy and safety? Personally I think we do have to make the choice between the two. There is give and take in all kinds of situations, we should give on this one to ensure our safety.
Edward Snowden behaved the way most should when they see something that is ultimately wrong, but he could have used the proper channels to expose this information. Had he gone through the proper channels he might not have to seek asylum in another country right now.
