Extended Analogy - If God Went to College

Likewise, the Catholic Church's days of obligation call members to build a stronger faith community by attending a religious service. Days like the Assumption, Pentecost, and Christmas all honor the way extraordinary individuals set an example for living a life of faith and love. Attending mass on a Holy Day of Obligation allows believers to become one step closer to the overall goal of a stronger relationship with God. .
One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself. College life, like the Roman Catholic Church, is guided by the Golden Rule. During the time spent in college, a student will meet people from all walks of life. The ability to interact with people of different backgrounds and opposing views is an invaluable skill all college students must learn to master in order to be successful. Learning to do this well requires tolerance, patience, and respect. These three traits, however, can not be taught, but must be developed through practice and experience. Meeting new people and expanding ones comfort zone will build relationships that can be beneficial in the future. College is not all about the grades a student makes, but rather the hands they shake. Similarly, the Catholic Church calls its members to practice tolerance and treat others with the mutual respect all humans deserve. Acceptance is essential to Catholicism because it builds community. As a parish takes in more members, its task of spreading the word of God and helping the poor, becomes a little more manageable. .
The harsh reality is that not all students will succeed in college. Most people know at least one person that struggled to complete a degree, or dropped out all together. Students that do complete a degree, leave with a strong sense of where they excel as well as where they struggle. A student must use the time they spend in college to realize their strength and weaknesses in the same way the Catholic Church calls its members to recognize their shortcomings.
