Education is one of the main components of a country`s development because education is the main way that gives people the ability to think and develop. Most of the developing countries have educational problems. In Egypt, the educational problem takes many forms. For example, graduate students always face unemployment as their educational skills do not qualify them to work in high jobs. Also some students get to the end of the primary stage, and they are not able to write their names. Many students in the stage of secondary school have a way of reading and writing that is not appropriate. Hence, Egypt has to reform its educational system in order to develop. Developing education is a complex process as it occurs through many steps, and it requires many efforts. The first step to develop education is to know the causes of the educational problem. In Egypt, the educational issue reasons are the ineffective ways of teaching, the poor infrastructures of schools and the unqualified teachers.
One of the main reasons of the educational problem in Egypt is the ways of educating students the curriculum. They are dysfunctional because they depend mainly on memorizing, studying for exams only and ignoring students` activities. According to Bill Beattie, "The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think - rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men." Unfortunately, the educational system in Egypt requires students to memorize their curriculum well without understanding or giving opinions about that material. Students are taught what they should know and do, but they have never been taught how to think and create. According to Dr. Mohamed Aboulghar, professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, one of the most valuable outcomes of university education is to encourage students to become self-confident and creative.
