World Blood Donor Day

This paper is devoted to the current event relating to the Human Services. I will describe the World Blood Donor Day, which takes place on the 14th June, every year. The event was established in May 2005, at the 58th session of World Health Association in Genève. (World Global Organization, 2013). This event directly relates to the Human Services and Social Work because it involves work of Human Services' institutes, health and social organizations. Its purpose is to improve the social issues connected with human health. The event is related to the global social issue. The issue addresses to such international Human Services as World Health Organization, Ministries of Healthcare, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, International Federation of Organizations of Blood Donors and International Community of Blood Transfusion. (World Global Organization, 2013). It involves work of local clinics, medical institutes and various departments in human health care.  .
The world "donor" origins from the Latin word "donare", which means, "to give". In this case, the donor gives life to a recipient. On this day, in 1868, Karl Landsteiner, an Austrian doctor and immunologist, discovered blood groups. He has received Nobel Prize in 1930 for this invention. (Timesofbook.com, 2013). There are four international organizations, who initiate and invoke for the voluntary free blood donation. They are World Health Organization, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, International Federation of Organizations of Blood Donors and International Community of Blood Transfusion. 193 countries-members of the United Nations, 181 national communities of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, 50 voluntary donor organizations and numerous specialists in blood transfusion from countries all over the world take part in the activities of this day. (Timesofbook.com, 2013). .
