Lincoln and Tony both got called to Mr. They both thought that they were in trouble, but they weren't. In fact they called them because they both got chosen for an exchange program in Japan, because they both have showed interest in martial arts. They both thought that they weren't going because the trip was 200 dollars, but their mothers told them that they were going. When Lincoln leaves San Francisco to spend their summer in Japan, he was thinking that he was going to spend all of his summer practicing Shōrinji Kenpō (A martial art). But once he arrived in Japan and meets his host family, he discovers that won't just be spending his summer practicing Kenpō. In fact he discovers baseball, family life, history, and traditions. He also found that there were people in Japan that wanted to know more about him, but how could he tell them that he was Mexican-American? As Lincoln starts' knowing his "brother" Mitsuo better, Lincoln learns a great lesson. This is that great friends exist on both sides of the Pacific. .
Reaction.
"Pacific Crossing" by Gary Soto is mainly about Lincoln's trip to Japan and how he learns a lot about Japan, and also about his "family" the Ono's. I think that this book is a greatly written book, and it shows some pretty important life lessons. The book also shows a unique point of view on family relations which is something I can relate on. Soto also shows how proud Hispanic persons are to represent their country in different places of the world. I think that this book also teaches a great lesson which is that there is great friends everywhere. I liked this book because of its simplicity and great story. This book has a really nice story about different cultures, traditions, and even different family relations. For example, in the book it say's "I felt Mexican pride." This shows how Lincoln was proud of his actual culture. And another thing that said in the book was "I am part of the family now" This shows that Lincoln was already feeling a part of the family; it also shows how kind the Ono family is towards Lincoln.
