The Encourager

I am an encouraging person because when I walk by a person and they are looking down I am automatically drawn towards helping them. When they look as though they are frustrated, even if I do not know them, I will ask them if they need help. My motto in life is to treat people how I would like to be treated. The reason for this is because I truly believe that if the whole world went off of this motto it would be a better place to be in.
One of the things that has always driven me towards being an encourager is my parents. They always taught me growing up that what we do and say will always effect the people around us. I didn't really realize that until I got braces. At first I wasn't really worried that anything would be different. I knew my mouth would be sore, but I truly thought that would be the only difference. Well that night I went up to my dad and smiled so he could see my braces, and he laughed. Yes, he did apologize later on but in that moment I was heartbroken. That day I realized that I never wanted to feel that way again, nor did I even want to make someone else feel the way I did. .
Not only did my bad experience with braces change my point of view, but also my realization to how words of encouragement can turn your bad day around. For example, one morning I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. It felt like everything was going wrong! I had gotten my chemistry test back and it was just horrible, I was having a bad hair day, and I didn't realize I had a coffee stain on my sleeve until after I had gotten to school. I felt as though I had no hope of making it to the end of the day without giving up. All that of course changed when my amazing boyfriend, Lamar, told me that I was the prettiest girl he had ever seen. No longer did I care about my messy hair or my coffee stain. All I cared about it that someone thought I looked beautiful!.
Even after I had experienced both the good and bad side of words and actions said I still hadn't realized the full extent to which humans can affect the people around us.
