Since 2012, the structure of the national high school examination of Vietnam has been changed three times and finally, been mixed with the university entrance examination. However, these changes seem not to be effective enough so that many parents and students did not support these changes. In fact, there are two opposing opinions on this issue. While some people claim that the national high school examination should be maintained, others argue that it should not be organized. From my standpoint, the national high school examination is not necessary in Vietnam because of many reasons.
On the one hand, there is no doubt that the national high school examination has existed for many years and the sudden elimination of this examination may cause some negative consequences. Some people are afraid that students may be lack of motivation to study because there is no standardized examination to assess their academic performances. However, academic abilities of students can still be demonstrated through the results of many kinds of exams such as midterm tests and final exams during the learning process at high school. Besides, it is also claimed that academic performances of students may not be assessed fairly because of differences in the examination content and the scoring method among schools and among regions. Nevertheless, this problem can be solved by organizing the university entrance examination carefully and rigorously. In this examination, students have to do the same test and their grades will be scored equally, by basing on a common scoring method. This guarantees that the academic performances of students will be evaluated relatively fair. .
On the other hand, I believe that the elimination of the national high school examination is beneficial. Firstly, academic pressure putting on students will be reduced. Instead of worrying about two important examinations which are organized consecutively, students only have to focus on one examination, which is the university entrance examination.
