Offensive and Intimidating - Harassment

            Harassment is an act that is offensive and intimidating in nature and its intention is to cause an upset or disturbance to the victim. The actions involved in harassment may be repetitive and systematic and they are intended to cause harm or to annoy a person since they entail demands and threats. The purpose of such actions may vary and they may range from wanting to make someone quit their job, as a result of racial prejudice, for sexual favors, as a result of malice and the sadistic nature of other people in order to inflict fear to a particular person. These acts are inhumane since they are intended to cause pain and this is harmful since it lowers the self-esteem and confidence of that particular person who is being harassed. The act of harassment should be condemned since it violates the rights of a person since the virtue of equality is undermined and any person who performs such an act should be punishable by the law.
             Cases of harassment are common in the workplaces and this undermines the fact that everyone has the right to be able to work in a workplace that is healthy and safe. People should be allowed to work freely without any fear or victimization being inflicted upon them since this will be instrumental for them to produce optimum results and this will be advantageous to the employer. The forms of harassments that occur in the workplace include the spreading of rumors that are malicious concerning a fellow workmate. The rumors are intended for an ill motive and such motives may include making that particular person the laughing stock in the workplace and this is very embarrassing and this lowers the self-confidence and esteem of such a person. The rumors cause more harm than good since it makes such a workmate less productive and this may lead to him or her being sacked because of being less active. Such behavior should be condemned and the top management should be careful of such actions (Wicks, 14).
