Movie Summary - El Mariachi

El Mariachi was directed by Robert Rodriguez. The plot of the movie was in a small Mexican town. It is the story of a mariachi who arrives one day looking for work in a small Mexican town, known as Acuna Ciudad 18. He is dressed in black and is carrying a guitar case. Little does he know a killer, known as Azul, arrives to the town the same day. Azul and the Mariachi are dressed exactly the same, both also carrying a guitar case. The killers guitar case does not posses a guitar, it is filled with weapons. All the mariachi wants to do is sing and play guitar, just as his ancestors did; but a case of mistaken identity quickly changes his life. The mariachi seeks refuge from Mocos (the drug dealer who is after Azul) hitmen. He finds safety in a bar owned by a women known as Domino. She gives him shelter and hires him as her bars mariachi. Although they gained trust with each other, Domino turns out to be the lover of Moco. One day, when the Mariachi leaves his guitar in the bar, Azul coincidentally stops by the bar. As he leaves, he accidentally grabs the Mariachis guitar case, leaving his behind. After their cases are misplaced, things go downhill as the identity of the mariachi is mistaken for the identity of Azul.
I learned that Mexicans face many challenges. One of the biggest things is poverty. In this movie, all the roads were unpaved and dusty. The buildings looked dirty. It seemed as though most people were either unemployed or poor. When they came across poverty, their only place turn was joining a gang involved with drug dealing. This quickly leads to another major problem in Mexico, which is violence. Most violence in this country is due to the involvement with drug dealing. .
I can relate this movie to one of my own experiences. Although they are not exactly the same, they are similar. When I was ten years old, I moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Oak Park, Illinois. I left behind all of my friends and family members (except my mother, sister, and stepfather).
