Being a 4-H Member

4-H can change your lifestyles and attitude of life. At 4-H club meetings 4-H members recite the Pledge of Allegiance and this 4-H pledge: "I pledge my Head to clearer thinking, my Heart to greater loyalty, my Hands to larger service, and my Health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world."(National 4-H Council, 2014, para. 10). This is also another motto that I have followed for the last 6 year. 4-H has taught me that not everything comes easy, that I have to earn things and not everything is going to come on a silver plate for anyone.
4-H is a nonprofit organization that helps youth becomes involved in the community, and helps them become responsible and respectful in what they are doing in 4-H and outside of the organization. We can show and sell animals, do different arts and crafts, and community services projects. 4-H doesn't stop once one hits there late teenage years. We can became a 4-H leader or coordinators or project managers. 4-H has taught me that I would have to work for what I wanted to get like a champion title for one of my animals that I showed at my local county fair. Another thing 4-H has taught me is be confident in what I'm showing and the community service project that I do during the year. It has made me more assertive when talking about different animals to other people who don't know anything about 4-H or the animals. It has made me more taught me the real meaning of responsibility. For example, I have to care for my animals during the time we get them to the last day of fair and give them a proper nutritious diet, fresh water and a clean pen to stay in. Lastly, it has as taught me the true meaning of teamwork when working to set up the barns before fair, sale ring, and clean up after fair, champion pens, other pens, and the sale ring. Things that we would do as a group would be getting our animal pens set up, decorations over our pins and sale night getting everything set up for the sale.
