Advancements in Stem Cell Research

Should Stem Cell Research Be Further Advanced?.
As humans, saving lives of others should be our main priority no matter what medical procedure is being done. Whatever procedure it takes to give an individual the healthiest life that they can possibly have on this earth should be put into action. Should we stop trying to find new ways to save the lives of many individuals or further advancement of the ways we already have? Im positive that most people want as many options that they can have when it comes to saving lives, but stopping or restricting the further advancement of stem cell research is closing one of those doors. As far as religion goes I would surely hope saving a persons life would not automatically deem your soul to hell.
Stem cells were first discovered in the early 1900s. They are classified by their ability to differentiate. This ability is key because they can change into other cells that may help cure an individual. There are three types of stem cells: totipotent which comes from embryos, pluripotent which comes from blastocyst and can form over 200 different cell types, and multipotent which comes from fetal tissue, cord blood, and adult stem cells.
The most controversial type but also most complex of all the stem cells are the embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are said to be able to develop into every type of cell in the body. Even though these cells have the highest ability to differentiate out of all the stem cells they are attacked by religious activist the most. The fact that these cells are disposed or tampered with in medical research is what really bothers activist. It is already proven that the cells have no mental capabilities so its not like babies are being destroyed or the cells themselves, they are being used to save lives of many ill individuals.
On March 9, 2009 President Obama signed an executive order that allowed stem cell research to have federal funding.
