According to Statistic Canada 14.9% of Canadians have low incomes. But the most alarming fact is that 13.3% of Canadian children live in poverty, compared to 11% across the 35 economically advanced countries (According to one study, half of First Nations children in Canada live in poverty). If people's ability to express their need for contact with each other is hindered by poverty: a majority of the citizens won't be able to voice their opinions and have their needs fulfilled. In the 21st century communication is the key to formulating social and economic policies, so all the citizens can fulfill their basic needs for food, shelter, healthcare and education. Therefore it is important to understand the correlation between income and social isolation to come up with strategies to mend the gap between low and high income classes minimizing the social isolation of people.
