Theology of the Trinity

Religion, which comes from the Latin word religio means reconnection. This concept of reconnection assumes that there was an original connection and now there is a disconnection. This disconnection is resolved when individuals accept that God sent his one and only Son in order for the Holy Spirit to dwell among us and grant us eternal life. This concept is easy for believers to grasp, but for unbelievers, it is difficult to believe God is both the Son and the Holy Spirit. For an individual to fully reconnect with God, they must first understand who he is and his intentions. God is tough to understand, he is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three in one. Through the understanding of the trinity, individuals can reconnect with God and understand the intentions of each being within the trinity.
The theme of trinity is introduced in Gen 1:26 where God says He will create man in "Our image " which shows a plurality that has caused debate for centuries in the church. During the Old Testament, the Jewish people understood God as a singular being; there are many instances that monotheism is present, especially in the Ten Commandments where God says in Exodus 20:3 "You shall have no other gods before me. " For the people of the Old Testament, Deut. 6:4 sums up the Jewish understanding of God, "Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one. " The Jewish people saw God as singular. This concept of a singular God is combatted with the introduction of God as Elohim. The first part of Elohim is a singular plural showing multiple entities but the ending is a singular ending showing that even with all the parts He is unified. The three distinct parts of God's identity are discussed at different times during the Old Testament. God the Father is discussed during the creation, at the burning bush with Moses, and at other instances of the divine will of God. The Holy Spirit is seen during the creation when the "Spirit of God " hovers over the waters.
