I personally believe that yes the government needs to fund the research of stem cells. The reasons we should have our government fund stem cell research are, for one stem cell research can make huge impacts in today's population because of all the once incurable disease's stem cells can cure. We can learn how diseases form and how to stop them once and for all so we can hopefully one day become a completely healthy nation. Even one of our former First Ladies Nancy Reagan stated, "And now science has presented us with a hope called stem cell research, which may provide our scientists with many answers that have for so long been beyond our grasp. I don't see how we can turn our backs on this. There are so many diseases that can be cured or at least helped. We've lost so much time already. I can't bear to lose any more"("Stem Cells Quotes").
So far the great people of America have spent roughly 146.1 million dollars on embryonic stem cell research and 431.0 million dollars on non-embryonic stem cell research in 2013 alone ("US News"). Those are just millionaires and random organizations donating money trying to better our knowledge and understanding. So far California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) has made multiple donations and has funded 87 therapy-focused awards worth more than $600 million. Their funding has led to more than 1,750 published discoveries. If we could get the government and more organization like CIRM to donate and fund this research we could have stem cell research over with and start saving lives from these horrible diseases ("California").
Stem cells could cure multiple deadly diseases including: Alzheimer's, Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS), Parkinson's, Arthritis, HIV/Aids, and many more ("Frequently Asked Questions"). All of these diseases kill millions of people every day if we got stem cell research to become more than just research we could save millions of lives.
