Environmental Ethics and Ecofemisim

The topic of Ecofeminism is a unique one with many different perspectives. In the book Environmental Ethics, they define ecofeminism differently than you would find in a dictionary, or on a website. The book's definition applies the word oppression to compare women and nature. Therefore we must compare the prolonged cruel and unjust treatment of nature versus that of women. I agree with Gaard and Gruen, the mistreatment of nature is a concern for an ecofeminist, in addition, I believe the mistreatment of nature is a concern for nearly everyone in the world. There are many areas of the environment that are a growing cause for concern. The book models how actions, relationships, and effects of different natural issues concern ecofeminism. I will focus on specific problems that concern ecofeminists, and how they influence other ideals. .
One action that is a concern for ecofeminists is pollution. According to our class book, Environmental Ethics, one in six people are drinking water with excessive amounts of lead and many other chemicals (Schmidtz). This is a growing concern as the world freshwater supply that is healthy to consume is decreasing. Children are dying because they are drinking this contaminated water. It was hard for me to tie my hands around how this was affecting ecofeminism. I realize now because humans are the ones contaminating the water. Therefore, we as humans are ultimately forcing oppression onto ourselves. This is a concern that focuses more on people of certain regions with poor water supplies. It also is part of the ecofeminism argument because children are included in feminist issue (Schmidtz). Because it is mainly children dying due to water pollution, it is then an ecofeminism concern. As I stated before, pollution is a result of human actions, therefore pollution is one action concerning ecofeminists.
There are many actions that have influenced how women are viewed in different cultures.
