My Imprisonment

Its been a month since I was released from a five month long illegal detention. But the element that still bothers me the most is that none of the men who imprisoned me have a speck of guilt or shame for their wrongdoing. On 18th June 2014, I returned to my home town Tehran after acquiring a 4 year long law degree from the University of London. I preferred staying in Iran and taking care of my old parents rather than returning to London. I settled in comfortably as the volleyball spirit in the country reached its peak. 20th June was a big day for Iran and a sensational enthusiasm was spread across the country. Streaks of patriotism within me led me to watch the 2nd match of the world volleyball league. Nuzhat and Ayesha, my two friends accompanied me to the stadium. All we wanted was to sit on those chairs to scream and cheer for our national team. But fate had something else in store for us. As we entered the stadium gate, a police attendant on duty grabbed my wrist and dragged me to the side. Looks like you shameless women have come here to protest. you are arrested by Allahs grace! Dont you know this is a place only for men? he blabbered, in an Arabic dialect of English.
But.but Italian women are cheering for their team so why cant we? revolted Nuzhat. I rebelliously followed up,If you consider yourself a Muslim, then listen up. No where does the Islamic Law prohibit women from watching men play. What the law states is that physical contact must be avoided. Look madam, clenching my fist even tighter we are just trying to protect you women. Men are men. Their behaviour is lewd. If something happens to you, who will take the blame? Seething in rage, I replied, so if you were just trying to protect us from the lewd behaviour of men in the stadium, isnt the dragging and wrist-pulling that you are in charge of considered as lewd behaviour? .
Paying no heed to my comment, he forcefully pushed me into a police van.
